Join us virtually for this 4-part series led by Cantor Neil Michaels AND GUEST FILMMAKER, JOE FRANKEL
There comes a time when we all must reckon with our relationship to Israel and this is true now, more than ever, with anti-semitism once again on the rise and the Jewish state having lost popular favor in the world.
There are marked differences between how Israel is represented in North American news and media and how Israel represents itself locally. What is Israel really? What are the origins of the country’s birthright and what is its significance in the world today? What does it mean to be Israeli and how does that reflect back on Jewish culture, identity and representation today?
Join in lively group discussions that will parse these and other questions. Watch and deconstruct scenes from popular Israeli and Israel-focused film and TV hits and gain a better understanding of how art and media can be used to influence thought in the dialogue surrounding Israel and its people.
Our gratitude to the Barr family for the Miriam and Dr. Isaac Barr Israel Education Fund which supports this important initiative. Miriam (Miri) Barr, a Holocaust survivor, had a deep passion her whole life for the State of Israel. This initiative is lovingly dedicated to her blessed memory by Dr. Isaac Barr.
