Welcome to the great tomato project!

We had an amazing day with you as we kicked off our Great Tomato Project with decorating & potting baby tomato plants, and making inspirational lawn signs that share our dedication to taking care of the environment!

Throughout the summer, we invite you to come back and visit this page to share pics of your growing tomato plants, and find some Jewish learning to inspire your family dinner conversations.

Food for Thought:

"When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap all the way to the corners of your field, or gather the gleanings of your harvest. You shall not pick your vineyard bare, or gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them all for the poor and the stranger; I am the lord your God." Lev. 19:9-10

  • Why shouldn't we reap all the way to the corners? Why should we let the fallen fruit be, and not gather it?
  • How big are the corners of a field? Why does this matter?
  • We don't have fields or vineyards. How can we help make sure the poor and the stranger still have fresh food to eat?

Parents, check out the fascinating rabbinic commentary on this law of leaving the corners of one's field for those in need in light of their own concerns about the poor.
