MAZON: The Hunger Museum Tour
Tuesday, October 29, 2024 • 27 Tishrei 5785
7:00 PM - 9:00 PMTemple IsraelThe Temple Israel community is invited to join Rabbi Joshua Bennett & MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger in exploring The Hunger Museum. Learn how we can (and almost did) end hunger in America.
We gather in the spirit that grounds so many of us — a commitment to learning and to the values of justice and common humanity that resonate in the Torah and our response to history alike. In learning what came before, we can make change.
About the Tour:
The tour will tease out the main narrative of the museum over the course of an hour, with time for questions and discussion. This tour is free and open to all, though geared for an adult audience.
About the Museum:
The Hunger Museum — now open at hungermuseum.org — tells the fascinating story of the last 100+ years of hunger and anti-hunger public policy in the United States. Because it’s completely virtual, you can engage with our immersive and interactive exhibits anytime, from anywhere, to learn about the political, economic, and cultural story of the expansion and dismantling of the American social safety net. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen.
Explore the galleries, stay awhile at the SNAP Café, and leave your wish for a more just world at the Wishing Tree. The lessons from history can help us forge a new path forward to end hunger. We know it’s possible — the proof is in our history
