1:00 PM - 2:00 PMFB LiveOver the last year, the number of refugees and displaced people across the world has grown to nearly 80 million – more than any time in recorded history. Because of our history and our values, the Jewish people have a unique connection to those fleeing violence and persecution.
Join Rabbi Jen Lader for a conversation with Rabbi Rachel Grant Meyer, rabbi-in-residence at HIAS, the Jewish humanitarian organization providing vital services to refugees and asylum seekers in 16 countries around the world. Together, we will learn more about the contours of this crisis and HIAS’s work historically and contemporarily; explore the roots of the word “ger” (Hebrew for refugee), the connection to fear and how we overcome it, and the historical evolution of the Jewish imperative to welcome the stranger; and find out how to take action in support of refugees and asylum seekers worldwide.
