Calling all aspiring songwriters, musicians, and general music lovers!

Join Temple's Artist in Residence Jacob 'Spike' Kraus for a three week collaborative songwriting workshop. Absolutely no prior songwriting or musical experience necessary. Spike's Koleynu Songwriting Workshop is a skill building workshop focused on strengthening writing practices and collaborative music making.

The program consists of three weekly 1 hour zoom sessions where we dive into a Jewish text or concept. We start with group songwriting exercises that are meant to build portfolios of writing that will serve as lyrics, and then participants who are musically inclined can offer ideas for melody lines and chord progressions. We'll talk about what we want our song to sound & feel like; it's an opportunity to engage in Jewish text while studying the craft of songwriting at a high level.

With our writing portfolios and musical ideas in hand, Spike will guide the process of turning all the bits and pieces into a fully finished song, taking you behind the curtain on his own songwriting process. Once our song is finished, those who want can participate in recording the final product (beyond the initial three zoom sessions). If you've ever wanted to write a song but never knew how to get started, or you just miss making music and collaborating with others, this is the workshop for you!
