Pre-Kindergarten - Third Grade
Curriculum & Benchmarks:
PRE-KINDERGARTEN
Students will begin their Jewish journey with an introduction to the concept of “being Jewish” and having a Jewish identity. They will develop a connection to the Temple/Synagogue and Religious School.
Hebrew:
Students will be exposed to the Hebrew Aleph Bet and learn basic Hebrew vocabulary. Students will recite in Hebrew the Shema, Motzi (Blessing over bread), Kiddush (Blessing over wine), and Shabbat Candle blessings.
KINDERGARTEN
Students will continue building the foundations of Jewish life and practice by exploring the integral role Judaism plays in their lives.
Hebrew:
Students will begin to identify Hebrew letters and basic Hebrew vocabulary utilizing the order of the Aleph Bet.
FIRST GRADE
Students relate to the three strands of the CHAI curriculum, Torah study, and good deeds through the theme of “discovering myself in the Jewish story.”
Hebrew:
Students will learn basic Hebrew vocabulary and will be able to recall the letters of the Hebrew Aleph Bet.

SECOND GRADE
Students continue to learn about the personal relevance and power of Torah (Jewish learning), Avodah (prayer) and G’milut Chasadim (good deeds).

Students will develop basic Hebrew reading and writing skills.

THIRD GRADE
Students refine their understanding and definition of K’dushah (holiness) and apply that understanding to how ritual objects, symbols, prayer and behaviors can make moments and places special, holy and closer to God.

Students continue to develop Hebrew reading and script writing skills.
